Professor Flora Fabian is the founding Vice Chancellor of Mwanza University in Tanzania, and a professor in anatomy and biomedical sciences. Before moving to Mwanza, she held positions at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences and the University of Dodoma. At the University of Dodoma, she served as Director for Research and Publications for six years overseeing the quality of research and publications, consultancy, and institutional collaboration, and managing research funds from both external and internal development partners. In addition to teaching students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, Flora has designed and facilitating training and mentoring support for early career researchers. She has led and supervised research in clinical sciences, public health, education and gender and has more than thirty peer reviewed publications to her name.
Flora has a special interest in gender mainstreaming and gender-responsive pedagogy. She has worked closely with INASP to deliver gender mainstreaming and training of trainer workshops as part of the Strengthening Research and Knowledge Systems (SRKS) and Transforming Employability for Social Change in East Africa (TESCEA) projects, which she co-led at Dodoma. Flora is a co-author of the INASP Gender Mainstreaming in Higher Education Toolkit.
