Monitoring and Evaluation of Electronic Resource Usage (MEERU), Lilongwe, Malawi, 25-27 May, 2010

MEERU, MalawiThis MEERU workshop was attended by 17 representatives of 9 MALICO member institutions and organised at Kamuzu College of Nursing by the PERii country coordinator, Mr Kondwani Wella.  Follow-up with organisers and participants show participants left the workshop with new ideas, eager to implement M&E activities.  During the event, the active participation from the demonstrated the high levels of interest and commitment of those present.  Participants were experienced in using e-resources but needed tools to measure how effective that usage was.  The final session of the workshop created a set of next steps for the participants, including future meetings of MALICO and planning future subscriptions to e-resources.

Electronic information and searching skills, Malawi College of Health Sciences, 27-28 November 2008

Sylvester Chawala implemented training sessions for over 200 medical students in order to improve skills on accessing and usage of electronic resources.

Electronic resource information workshop, Mzuzu University Library,
18-19 September 2008

Lizzie Malemia of Mzuzu University Library organised and facilitated a training workshop to promote the utilization of e-resources with the assistance of an INASP small grant sponsored by Oxford University Press.  The 24 participants, which included the university faculty and staff, considered the content very relevant to their area of work and appreciated the practical aspects of the training.

Curriculum Development/Review Workshop for the Library and Information Science Programme, Mzuzu University, Kambiri Lodge, Salima, 1 - 5 September, 2008

Participants august 2008This workshop was facilitated by Paul Sturges (Loughborough University) and attended by 16 participants, including faculty members and administrators from Mzuzu University, key key members of the Malawian library profession, and two further facilitators Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The course of the workshop was set in two presentations (the LIS Curriculum Design and Development Process, and Reviewing/Developing the LIS Curriculum) to establish principles that could drive the design of a stronger and more up to date curriculum. What emerged from the process was an outline of a better-structured curriculum with IS modules that would accommodate the up-to-date content that successful modern programmes require.

Web Page Design and Authoring, Leading to library Web Pages, University of Malawi, Kamuzu College of Nursing Library, Lilongwe, 22-25 January 2008

Organised by the Malawi Library and Information Consortium (MALICO), this training workshop was attended by 16 participants from amongst the consortium membership.  Lead facilitator was Sydney Ngwira from Mzuzu University and Co-facilitator was Tiwonge Msulira-Banda from the UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and Education Networking. The workshop was presented with the aim of building capacity and enabling use of personally created websites in marketing individual institutions and the e-resources available to them. Participants deemed this a very useful workshop and appreciated the use of practical local website examples.  Requests from participants included provision of an advanced level of this training to further develop the skills acquired.
