African Journals OnLine (AJOL): An Internal Evaluation, 2000–2002
The African Journals Online (AJOL) programme was launched in 1997 as a pilot project and, after a successful evaluation at the end of 1999, it was relaunched in 2000 with changes to its service, with plans for expansion and greater inclusivity of African journals.
This report provides the results of a survey and evaluation of the AJOL service undertaken at the end of 2002. The survey included the participating journals, as well as users, and presents a report of the current success of the programme, with suggestions for improving it in the future.
The objectives of this evaluation were as follows:
- to ascertain whether the results of research published in African journals were becoming more widely known and used
- to ascertain whether the journals had benefited, either through increased income from subscriptions or other ways, from exposure in AJOL
