PERii: Information Delivery

Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERii)

Researchers facing development challenges need to base solutions on reliable and informative research. As well as supporting research communication, by building relationships with publishers PERii improves access to international research. This enables librarians in developing and emerging countries to provide their users with access to the best of international knowledge.

We offer access to a wide variety of materials

Engaging in negotiations with a diverse range of publishers is an important part of enabling access to research across many disciplines - including social sciences. We continually evolve the type of content available which includes online journals, books and databases. We also provide links to free and open access resources.

The negotiated content available includes:

  • Over 38,000 online journals (23,000+ full text)
  • Over 7,000 ebooks
  • Citation and bibliographic databases
  • Document delivery from the British Library

If you are a publisher interested finding out more information about joining PERii, please contact us via email.

We improve relationships between researchers, their libraries and publishers

Our activities help researchers to know which resources are available, how to access them and how to improve the efficacy of their own research. How researchers use resources available via PERii is monitored and analysed in order to promote resources and offer training where needed.

Publishers for Development (PfD) is a joint initiative with the Association of Commonwealth Universities dedicated to supporting open dialogue and discussing real life research and publishing issues.  PFD provides a forum for information and discussion around the importance of access to information for development.

Access to international research goes from strength to strength

In 2003 there were 204 research institutions registered for PERii. By 31 December 2007 this had increased to 989 and reached 1,303 by the end of 2010. During the same period the number of full-text downloads leapt from 170,000 to over 2.4 million.

Increasing access to international knowledge places researchers from developing and emerging countries on a par with their global peers, and allows them to build on the experiences of other countries.
