INASP announces new Chair of the Board of Trustees
INASP is delighted to announce that Prof. John V. Wood is to be the new chair of its board. Following confirmation by the International Council of Science (ICSU) of his appointment as a trustee, the INASP Board, at its recent end of year meeting, proceeded unanimously to elect him to the position of chair.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome John and we look forward greatly to learning from the wealth of expertise that he brings to the task, including his work at Imperial College, and as Chair of the European Research Area Board (ERAB) and of the JISC Support of Research committee (JSR).
John succeeds Robert (Bob) Campbell, Senior Publisher at Wiley-Blackwell, whose committed work with the Board over the last five years helped steer INASP through its transition from ICSU working group to a fully registered international charity.
INASP would like to express its enormous gratitude to Bob for all his support and for his unstinting generosity with his time and energy to ensure that INASP was able successfully to make that transition. We are really pleased that, having stood down as Chair, he will remain a Board member for a further year to ensure a smooth handover.
At the same Board meeting, Prof. N. Mukunda also completed his much-valued contribution to the oversight of INASP. He joined the Board of Trustees at the end of 2008, following a merger of the Board and INASP's International Advisory Panel (IAP), which he had chaired. Dominique Hounkonnou, an even earlier member of the IAP, also ended his formal service to INASP at the same meeting. The support of them both stretches back to INASP's earliest days in the mid-1990s.
INASP would like both Prof. Mukunda and Dominique Hounkonnou to accept its grateful thanks for their longstanding contribution and, as Board Alumni, we hope to remain in touch with them in the future.
