PERii: Library Development

As knowledge and information intermediaries , librarians play an important role in increasing the accessibility and dissemination of research. The Library Development component of PERii works with libraries to ensure that policy makers and researchers have access to global knowledge.
We enable the development and enhancement of skills
We help to equip librarians with appropriate skills to support scholarly research and communication. We use a ‘train the trainer' - or cascaded training - approach which encourages trainees to share their learning with others.
Key areas of training include:
- Information literacy
- E-resources, including monitoring and evaluation of usage
- Library and Information Science (LIS) curriculum development
- Developing an institutional repository
- Library automation
Recognising that the changing environment demands constant re-skilling of staff (capacity building) we also support libraries to improve the skills of their staff through continuous professional development.
We help libraries create the infrastructure to enable them to deliver services in the digital library environment to meet the growing expectations of scholars and researchers
Capturing research in one place using digital technology allows researchers and policy makers to easily find information relevant to their work. We support research into new online technology and disseminate advice on best practice so that libraries in developing and emerging countries can stay abreast of developments to improve the research communication cycle.
We support the development of library consortia and professional Associations
Making the most of professional associations is key to enhancing a library's ability to network, so they can share knowledge and best practice. Publishing conference proceedings and providing support for many professional associations has been a long standing activity for INASP.
