UKSG's E-Resources Management Handbook
UKSG, has produced a very useful Handbook comprising 27 chapters on topics such as licensing, archiving, marketing and ERM systems. Chapters relevant to Licensing and negotiation include:

  • A Beginner's Guide to Working with Vendors, by Joseph Thomas of East Carolina University, which considers the varieties of library-vendor relationships, issues with communication, product knowledge, licensing and negotiating, ongoing service responsibilities and ethics
  • Licensing and Negotiating: Exploring unfamiliar ground, by Nol Verhagen, which maps librarians altered roles from book-buyers to licence-negotiators, from circulation experts to providers of digital services.
  • How to Survive as a New Serialist, by Glenda Griffin of Sam Houston State University, which provides information on organizations, associations, online and print resources, discussion lists and training events, and practical suggestions on getting started

The Handbook forms a valuable and comprehensive guide for the entire information industry, and will continue to grow as new chapters are commissioned to address hot topics as they arise.
