2008

Working together to support research: follow-up workshop, Honduras, 16-17 June 2008
This workshop brought together 26 participants from 10 institutions in Honduras to discuss progress since the initial WTSR workshop and the way forward.  The co-facilitator Maidelyn Diaz Perez from Cuba assisted Patricia Villalobos and Alwyn Espinal from  the local PERii Country Coordination team with presentation of this workshop.

Exemplar library visits, April - June 2008
To learn more about the set-up of neighbouring country libraries, in order to develop stronger researcher-focused library services, 26 Honduran colleagues were involved in various exemplar library visits.

Four colleagues visited libraries in El Salvador and Cuba, three colleagues visited libraries in Mexico, and a further nineteen spent time in Costa Rica visiting fourteen institutional libraries, both public and private. Throughout these visits, the Hondurans were exposed to a variety of services directed at both general library users and researchers more specifically. They plan to implement many of the features and services they saw into their own libraries.

End user training programme, March - June 2008
A series of workshops was planned and facilitated by UNAH Library staff. These workshops were carried out during the months of March-June 2008 with the aim of raising awareness of electronic resources and promoting the use of them as a tool to support research conducted in the country.

The majority of the training sessions involving researchers were delivered by subject area, thereby concentrating on the resources that would be of most use to that group. For sessions involving librarians, the focus was much wider, as this group needed to be familiar with all of the resources in order to provide the best support to researchers across all disciplines. The methodology adopted by the facilitators was one of ‘learning by doing', alongside an introductory presentation about PERii. Participants practised searching the resources for particular information.

Across the 4 month period, the UNAH coordination team successfully delivered over 60 training sessions all over Honduras.

2007

Working together to support research, Honduras, 13th-15th December 2007
In December 2007, 16 national institutions participated in the workshop "Working Together to Support Research" (WTSR), facilitated by an INASP associate. There were two representatives from each institution at the workshop: one librarian and one researcher. The aim of the workshop is to foster cooperation between librarians and researchers with the end product being an action plan of how to enhance researcher-focused information services at their institutions.

During this workshop participants also got to know more about INASP's Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI) and the electronic resources to which they have access through it.
