Small grants scheme

The Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERii) aims to support research capacity in developing and emerging countries.  We are always looking for new or innovative ways to best meet the increasing demand and challenges faced in creating, sharing and improving access to information and electronic resources. One way which has helped to do this is by inviting applications for the award of a small grant for proposals designed to complement and extend the existing work we do with country partners.

The Small Grants Scheme gives priority to innovative proposals; these could be any unusual or new projects designed to stimulate increased quality, visibility or availability of research at a national, regional or international level.

The proposal should demonstrate why your particular project merits award of a grant. The application must:

  • show a clear purpose and outcome which can be seen to contribute to our mission and/or to support our stakeholders
  • propose a new initiative, approach, solution
  • demonstrate that if similar initiatives do exist that you have researched them and identified how your proposal differs (eg. target group/ location/ expansion/ technology)
  • provide a locally sustainable proposal or require only one-off support. Especially important in projects which require further development to be operational eg. institutional repository creation workshop or similar
  • contain an itemised budget with full details of associated costs, based on cost effective estimates that represent good value for money
  • have local PERii country coordinator and/or local consortium support
  • consider the appropriate conditions required for implementation of the proposal
  • consider any likely barriers to implementation
  • indicate level of commitment to proposed project. For example by providing resources such as staff time, venue, partial funds or development of materials to ensure implementation
  • provide details of any collaborative funding/contribution towards this particular project or complementary project

The implementation of small-grant-enabled events is undertaken collaboratively. In addition to the support from INASP's funders, the small grants scheme is dependent on the local contacts - primarily the applicant/organiser and hosting institution but also the national PERii Country Coordinator and participants.

The small grants scheme accepts applications annually and activities supported must be completed within 6 months of the award of grant.  If this is not possible alternative arrangements are to be made prior to acceptance of grant award.

Closing date for applications: 30 June
