ICT Professionals

INASPs work with ICT professionals focuses on individuals and groups that are actively involved in research information production, delivery, access and use. Generally this means those working in the areas of research and education networking (RENs), university campus networks and libraries and information service ICT centres.

INASP helps to support the essential role that ICT professionals play in the modern research information environment. Without a strong infrastructure, appropriate software and support systems, users and producers of information would face insurmountable challenges in accessing information. ICT professionals often work behind the scenes; to provide working access to the Internet, a functioning website and online information database as well as ensure that a functional, properly maintained and upgraded computer is available.

INASPs work with this group currently focuses in a number of key areas:

Bandwidth management and optimisation (BMO)
Working to ensure that Internet connectivity is managed and optimised to ensure availability and support research and education. Particular focus is placed on the development of supportive institutional and national level policies and their wider environment. Support is also given for innovative approaches to technical skills training and capacity development. More information is available on the BMO webpages.

Support of ICTs centres who in turn support end users
Working to ensure appropriate hardware and software is available and supported to allow end users to access and use information. Particular focus is on helping libraries manage and support ICTs within the delivery of their services.

Information systems and online resources training
Working to ensure optimal use of online information systems so that the information contained within them can be effectively accessed and used for maximum effect. Particular focus is on working with librarians and researchers on developing trainers and information intermediaries to train others in this area.
