Working together to support research: optimising the use of e-resources

A 3-day workshop which brings together information professionals and researchers to work together on strategies for optimising the use of e-resources.

Aims and objectives

The overall objective of the workshop is to improve and increase the use made of e-resources by researchers. In this it supports the objectives of INASP's Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI) which are:

  • to facilitate the acquisition of international information and knowledge
  • to improve access to research through the promotion of national and regional journals
  • to provide awareness or training in the use, evaluation and management of electronic information and communication technologies (ICTs);
  • to enhance skills in the preparation, production and management of journals.

The workshop aims to bring together researchers and librarians from organisations that have access to PERI resources to:

  • ensure awareness of what is available under the programme
  • identify factors which deter use of e-resources by the research community
  • encourage the two communities (librarians and researchers) to work together to find ways to improve the use of e-resources for the enhancement of research in each participating organisation.

The workshop is about optimising the conditions for effective use of e-resources; it is not a training course on search skills or on the use of specific resources.

By the end of the workshop, delegates will:

  • be aware of the range of PERI resources available to them
  • have reviewed the way these resources are managed and used in their own organisations
  • have started to formulate plans to develop e-resources management and use, to meet the needs of the research community.
