E-resource promotion competition winners announced
We are pleased to announce that the following institutions have been awarded a grant of $500 each from INASP to support their promotional plans.
Ghana
The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH) plans to develop a video documentary on library resources and usage, to conduct training exercises on accessing information, to prepare flyers and posters and to send reminders to faculty members using university mail systems.
Kenya
Strathmore University will promote usage of both recently introduced databases and older ones to through taking the e-resources to the student spaces : links of relevant sources on e-learning platform, library social network pages and the creation of subject web pages.
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has a range of promotional activities planned including: promotional brochures and leaflets; training and tutorials; writing articles in the university news magazine; working further with mass communication students on an open access documentary; identifying e-resources ambassadors from each faculty and possibly using work study students to develop a Google custom search to help search across all the databases
Pakistan
COMSATS Institute of Information Technology key plans include developing interactive tutorials about the use of each database and designing a specific course about the use of electronic resources and have special classes during each semester and making it a mandatory part of the institute's scheme of study.
Sri Lanka
Resource Centre of the Centre for Poverty Analysis known as the Knowledge Hub 4 Development (KH4D) holds a range of resources on poverty and development in Sri Lanka. The project will promote KH4D, through e-advertising, mainly to Sinhala and Tamil audiences, thereby expanding services to a much wider audience.
Uganda
One of the initiatives at Uganda Martyrs University is a "Reach out to faculty" campaign as faculty members are crucial in assisting the library promote e-resources to the students. To support this they are installing an EZProxy server to allow access to the resources seamlessly both on and off campus and the library will offer subject/ faculty specific training to the students; training them on how to access e-resources specific to their subject areas.
The Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) identified the need to increase their membership and to encourage members to access e-resources. They plan a "New-Comers" sensitisation workshop (July 2011) with representation from new, potential and existing members. Promotional materials about CUUL and e-resources will be prepared and used at two exhibitions - the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA).
Vietnam
College of Arts, Hue University will hold a workshop on "Introduction to electronic document resources" , combined with print displays of Fine Arts Magazines.
Zimbabwe
The University of Zimbabwe will be implementing a multi-faceted e-resources promotional plan through training, campaigns and the use of social networking sites.
