African University Press Publishing Workshop, 2005
In June 2005 INASP undertook a 6-day workshop at the Addis Ababa University Press, with the objective of developing skills and knowledge within the Press staff, and enabling the management to develop a strategic plan for the Press. The Press was established in 1967 and publishes books from university staff, as well as external authors. This workshop was run with the aim of building a methodology for supporting other university presses throughout Africa to develop their business models and develop more sustainable future operations.
The workshop was facilitated by Helen van Houten, Sioux Cumming, and Eve Gray and attended by participants from the University Press, plus some external observers.
The outcome from the workshop was that a draft strategy plan for the Press was produced, which was to be completed and actioned within the following 12 months.

AJOPP Workshops, 2001 and 2006
To initiate the African Journals Online Publishing Programme (AJOPP), INASP held a workshop in Harare, Zimbabwe in 2001. This workshop invited journals to attend and during the workshop they investigated the potential of online pubilshing and the different hosting opportunities. From this workshop, each journal produced an action plan to help them develop an online presence.
In 2006, editors from six African journals attended a follow-up workshop in Kampala, Uganda to evaluate the African Journals Online Publishing Programme and to look at ways to develop it further. Participants came from Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Uganda to discuss online publishing and to share experiences. Plans were produced for the development of their future online presence.

INASP Symposium 2004
This symposium was held by INASP as part of our role to assist in developing information systems and services around the world.
With speakers from developing and developed countries, representing government, public and private interests, this interactive event explored new priorities, new thinking and new methods of information creation and dissemination. It allowed participants to identify actions to support the global information society – and so strengthen worldwide research.

Reviewing Workshop for Journal Editors, Uganda, 2005
This workshop was held jointly with the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases at WHO (TDR) and the Forum for African Medical Editors (FAME) in Entebbe, Uganda, April, 2005. The objective of the workshop was to develop improved reviewing processes and guidelines for the FAME membership and other medical journals and also included a session on how to provide training to their reviewers. Strategic Online Publishing for Sri Lanka, 2005
INASP held a 5-day workshop for journal editors and publishers in Kandy, Sri Lanka, 30 May - 4 June 2005 in association with the University of Colombo. This workshop included modules on strategic publishing and improving editorial processes and also looked at how to build and develop a Sri Lanka journal publishing platform to support online visibility for its journals. The facilitators were Pippa Smart from INASP and Dr Ana Marusic from the Croatia Medical Journal
There were 22 participants representing the Library staff of the University of Colombo and the following journals:
