Bandwidth management and optimisation – Linux Essentials Training workshop, University of Malawi, College of Medicine, 3-7 December, 2007
This technical Linux skills training was provided in response to identified need expressed by the Malawi Research Education Network (Universities of Malawi and Mzuzu). The workshop aims to contribute to their objectives of improving internet connectivity by enhancing the skills of the technical personnel who participate. The Network is strategising on low-cost solutions for e-learning, student management systems and see Linux as a core infrastructure for housing free open software. Participants are now expected to pioneer Linux use in their respective institutions. The event was facilitated by Mr M Monawe and attended by thirteen participants from the technical support team within the University of Malawi (UNIMA) and Mzuzu University.
Malawi Library Consortium (MALICO).
The Consortium organised a one day follow up review meeting in May for participants of the 2006 Working together to support research (WTSR) workshop. The local group of 18 participants attended and they reviewed progress, shared ideas and identified areas for further development.
MALICO also coordinated the workshop entitled Monitoring and Evaluation of E-resource Usage (MEERU) from 19-21 September with 15 participants from 8 institutions in Malawi. Feedback from this event gave it a 100% rating for content and relevance to work and felt better placed to constructively choose and monitor resources as a result.
