Announcing the launch of three new JOL (Journals OnLine) projects in Nepal, Vietnam and Bangladesh

INASP is proud to announce the launch of three new JOL (Journals OnLine) projects in Nepal, Vietnam and Bangladesh

INASP is pleased to announce the launch of three new JOLs (Journals Online) projects, in Nepal (www.nepjol.info), Vietnam (www.vjol.info) and Bangladesh (www.banglajol.info). These follow on from the success of AJOL (African Journals Online www.ajol.info) which was set up by INASP and which, in 2005, moved to African Management in association with NISC (www.nisc.co.za).

What is a JOL?

Journals OnLine (JOLs) are a service to provide access to locally published research and increase worldwide knowledge of indigenous scholarship.

A JOL is a database of journals published locally, in-country, covering the full range of academic disciplines. The objective of each JOL is to give greater visibility to the participating journals, and to the research they convey.

How JOLs work

JOLs use the Open Journals System created by the Public Knowledge Project (http://pkp.sfu.ca) based in Canada. They provide participating journals the opportunity to take control of their own area within the JOL: to load, edit and to update their own journal information.

Researchers can read free abstracts and access full text articles from participating journals, while authors can submit their articles online by following a few simple steps.

JOLs offer participating publishers:
• Online hosting of abstracts free of charge
• Opportunity to load full text online
• Loading and managing own content
• Consistent growth in exposure
• Online instructions for authors
• Contact information

JOLs offer the researcher:
• Reputable peer reviewed journals
• Free access to abstracts
• Free email alerts
• Sophisticated searching facilities
• Links to online full-text
• Online article submission

For inclusion on a JOL a journal must be:
• Scholarly
• Peer reviewed
• Published within the JOL’s country
