2008

Training the Trainer in Information Literacy, National University of Rwanda Library, November 25-27 2008.
This three-day Workshop was facilitated by Professor Peter Underwood (Cape Town University Centre for Information Literacy).The workshop included lectures and presentations, group tasks, plenary discussions, demonstrations and practical work. The aim of providing each participant with ideas about how to assess the need for an institutional information literacy intervention, plan, implement and manage the intervention and assess the result was achieved.  The political need to secure institutional commitment and cooperation, especially for resource provision, was also addressed.

It was especially evident that, during the group discussions, participants were exchanging experience and gaining useful knowledge from each other and from the presenters, who also sat in on the discussions. The sessions conducted by the invited presenters, Faith Akiteng (Uganda), Dr Sophia Kaane (Kenya), Perpetua Dadzie (Ghana) and Kent Pettersson (Sweden), were all well received and did much to provide examples and experience to underline the theory. They were also of considerable assistance during the group discussions, each joining groups and serving as facilitators of discussion.
