AuthorAID@INASP: Programme Overview and Outline
Goal
AuthorAID@INASP seeks to overcome the inequality caused by a publishing gap between those authors in settings rich with resources, and those where resources are scarce. Success will be reflected in higher acceptance rates for researchers seeking to publish in peer-reviewed journals and an increase in the visibility and influence of research undertaken within the emerging countries.
Objectives
To build a web-based Knowledge Community to:
- provide authors and editors with materials and information to help improve their scientific papers
- provide a space where authors and editors can participate in discussion fora, post notices to bulletin boards and receive relevant news alerts
- enable a mentoring system matching skilled and experienced scientific and editorial mentors with less experienced authors to help them prepare their work and achieve publication
- provide an article repository of writing projects that have passed through the mentoring system, making them available to users of the website
- support and develop local capacity with face-to-face training of authors and journal editors through a cascading workshop methodology
- monitor, evaluate and learn from the programme from the beginning
Programme approach
The AuthorAID concept will be tested through the use of a three-component demonstration project:
- A web-based Knowledge Community
- A mentoring system
- Outreach and capacity development workshops
For full details of these three components, see the Components and methodology page.
