National Institutional Repository Workshop, May 2010

National Institutional Repository Workshop, University of Zimbabwe Library, Harare, Zimbabwe, 4-6 May 2010

26 participants, representing 13 institutions, attended this workshop which was coordinated by ZULC (Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium). The objective was to train participants in implementing a digital repository. This included conducting a needs analysis and compiling a business plan, installing the necessary software and giving exposure to the repository and the role of librarians and faculty.

Given the need for their close collaboration and complimentary skills, a librarian and ICT professional attended from each institution. The workshop was facilitated by Admire Mutsikiwa, ICT Manager at University of Zimbabwe, and Misheck Nyaluso, Systems Librarian at the College of Medicine, Malawi.

Feedback noted that there was too much content to cover in three days, so follow-up visits are being explored. Alongside institutional plans to develop digital repositories, ZULC is in the process of establishing a National e-Theses and Dissertations Repository.
