Training stakeholders in practical and strategic elements of research communication through cascaded learning events

INASP has developed a flexible training ‘tool box’ including informal briefings, face-to-face workshops, virtual learning environments, curriculum development, study tours and sharing best practice. Wherever possible a cascading approach is taken in which facilitators first attend, then co-facilitate and then facilitate an event.

Training covers both practical and strategic areas and all the materials are available to download for free from this website:

• Researchers: a series of modules to support researchers to: access and use research content; participate in debates around new publishing models; familiarise inexperienced researchers with strategies for improving their manuscripts for publishing in journals and communicating research  to new audiences
• Editors: working with journal editors to strengthen the editing, production and strategic development of journals and to raise awareness of current debates around new publishing models
• Librarians: working with partners in LIS schools to update curricula and courses and offer lecturers opportunities to update their knowledge. INASP also supports a small grants programme to encourage libraries to develop further digital services. Additionally, cascading training workshops will be facilitated where appropriate
• ICT Professionals: technical and policy level training around bandwidth management and optimisation. In addition INASP will work with partners to commission case studies, documenting of software to facilitate Open Source licensing and commissioning reviews of Open Source and commercial software solutions in this area

INASP works with the partner institution to ensure that the training meets the needs of the organisation. This allows the training to take place in an enabling environment and so increases the probability that the event leads to improved work results for the participant and their institution.
