PERii Steering Committee Meeting 2009
The second annual PERii Steering Committee (SC) meeting was hosted by the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences at the BRAC Centre Inn in Dhaka from 11th-14th May. The meeting involved participants from the majority of INASP's partner countries, several members of INASP staff and a representative from the UK Department for International Development (DFID). The event was facilitated by independent development consultant, Teresa Hanley.
The meeting was organised based on feedback received from both the previous SC meeting and a survey, circulated to Country Coordination (CC) teams and INASP staff, requesting suggestions for focus topics.
The sessions during the meeting were:
- Review of 2008 activity: This was based on reports written by each country and the annual report compiled by INASP
- Sustainability: Thinking about what sustainability means in PERii as a whole, and in specific programme strands
- Working together: Collaborating as a global network can throw up challenges as well as great opportunities. This session looked at how well we are working together and areas in which we could improve
- Needs assessment: Discussions on how best to assess the needs of our stakeholders, including what we are doing and what we could be doing
- Grant proposal writing: After an initial presentation on things to bear in mind when developing a grant proposal, participants worked in small groups, following a step-by-step process, to develop an initial outline
- Monitoring and evaluation: Discussing what different countries and INASP are already doing in this area, and the importance of monitoring, evaluating, and responding to changing needs
In response to feedback following the 2008 meeting, a key feature of many of the sessions was the inclusion of case studies presented by various participants. These gave a real sense of the work being done by all of INASP's partners, and allowed for learning among all participants. Hearing practical examples of how people have overcome challenges motivates others to try new things.
