Library Funding: Adequate financial support for African university libraries
In 2000 the Standing Conference of African National and University Libraries in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (SCANUL-ECS) requested Professor John Willemse to develop guidelines which might assist African university libraries determine levels and sources of financial support.
His report includes a brief review of library funding worldwide, before moving to an examination of the current funding situation in African universities and their libraries. Standards and norms are considered in depth and particular attention is paid to the use of student fees and income generation as means of supplementing government grants. The final chapter summarises the findings and recommendations.
