2010 Emerald/ALCS African Research Fund Awards

There is less than one month remaining to apply for the 2010 Emerald/ALCS African Management Research Fund Award and the 2010 Emerald/ALCS African Engineering Research Fund Award

Each award will offer £2,500 (approximately US$4,000 equivalent) to fund the winning research projects.

All that is required is a 2,000-word summary of the proposed research project, and a covering letter. Applications should address the dissemination of knowledge for the social good with a specific orientation toward benefit for Africa.

The main member of the research team must be based in Africa. The closing date for receipt of applications is 1 February 2011. See below for further infomation.

IAABD2010 Emerald/ALCS African Engineering Research Fund Award

Emerald and ALCS (The Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society), in association with INASP and the African Engineering Education Association (AEEA), are delighted to offer a research grant for an African project in the field of engineering research. The Award will offer £2,500 (approximately US$4,000 equivalent) to fund the winning research project. Applications should focus on the subject of material sciences, , and should also address the dissemination of knowledge for the social good with a specific orientation towards benefit for Africa.

AEEA2010 Emerald/ALCS African Management Research Fund Award

Emerald and ALCS (The Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society), in association with INASP and the International Academy of African Business and Development (IAABD), are delighted to offer a research grant for an African project in the field of management research.
The Award will offer £2,500 (approximately US$4,000 equivalent) to fund the winning research project. Applications should address the dissemination of knowledge for the social good with a specific orientation towards benefit for Africa.

Applications should address the dissemination of knowledge for the social good with a specific orientation toward benefit for Africa.

In addition to the research grant, the Winner will also be given the opportunity to receive the assistance of an experienced Emerald editor or former editor in helping write a high-quality article, offering the best chance of getting accepted for publication. Both Emerald and ALCS are exceedingly proud to support and reward such high-quality research.

Eligibility
At least one member of the research team must be based in Africa.

Judging criteria
Each application will be judged, by a panel of experts, on the five criteria below. The research must:

  • Be of significance and, in particular, illustrate how it will benefit the social good
  • Demonstrate originality and innovation
  • Make an outstanding contribution to theory and its application
  • Illustrate the appropriateness and application of the methodology
  • Demonstrate sound implications for theory and practice

Application requirements

Each proposal must be submitted using the applicable online application form below:

The following documents will be required electronically:

  • A summary stating specific goals, outcomes and benefits of the research. This should not exceed 2,000 words (note that tables, figures, appendices and reference lists, if provided, do not count towards the 2,000 word total)
  • A covering letter containing full contact details (affiliation, full address, telephone number/s and e-mail address) for all researchers involved in the project. Please state clearly which researcher will be the main point of contact

The 2,000-word summary must:

  • Display clearly a statement of purpose and intent
  • State clearly the methodology(ies) applied and explicitly describe the research process
  • State expected research outcomes and expected impact and possible application
  • Specify the expected time-scales of the research process
  • Outline projected costs and total research grant required

Key dates
The closing date for applications is 1 February 2011.
Winners will be announced in April 2011.
