Development of AHILA strategy workshop, Sala de Conferencias das TDM, Maputo, Mozambique, 06-10 October 2008 This workshop was organised by Partnerships in Health Information (Phi) in order to avail of the opportunity to hold discussions with delegates attending the 11th Biennial Congress of the Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa. From amongst the 105 delegates attending the Congress, AHILA countries were represented at this INASP supported workshop by participants from Burkina Faso, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and UK. The workshop was successful in achieving its aim of identifying the external and internal factors and opportunities that might impact on the future strategic development of AHILA. The results were then shared during the AHILA General Assembly plenary session on the final day of the congress giving all participants a chance to comment and vote on priorities and form resolutions. Ibrahima Bob, HIFA2015 Regional Co-ordinator for Africa, commented on the significance of this planning workshop in his report on the conference. “Colleagues and Friends AHILA will enter a new era as its strategic plan develops. Our new President describes AHILA as ‘a sleeping giant.’ Planning will help the giant to awake and enable us as librarians and health information professionals to increase the effectiveness of the contribution we make to developing health of the people of Africa.”
