CARINDEX (An index of literature published in the Caribbean)

CARINDEX is an index to the contents of West Indian journals, published in the Caribbean region. It also includes theses, papers presented at conferences, collections of working papers, etc. CARINDEX is published in two parts. CARSAH covers publications in the social sciences and humanities from 1983 onwards. CARSCI covers publications in science and technology from 1960 onwards. Priority is given to indexing materials of immediate relevance to the teaching and research at the three campuses of the University of the West Indies.

It is prepared and maintained by the Library of the University of the West Indies (UWI). Full bibliographical details are provided. Each record contains an abstract of content. The full text of items is not available.

To date, the index has only been available in UWI libraries. INASP is assisting UWI by creating an online version and hosting it on the INASP site until the middle of 2007, after which it is to move to the UWI library website.

The following records are currently available online:

  • CARSAH 1983 to 2002 and 5,837 records
  • CARSCI 1970 to 1993 and 2,147 records

It is planned to complete the CARSCI file and then add new records to both indexes at regular intervals.
