LATINDEX Collaboration

Since its launch in 1996, the Latindex System has contributed to increasing the quality and international visibility of scholarly journals edited in Latin America. This has been primarily through the development of the three main publications: the Directory, the Catalogue and the Index, which are in a process of continuous expansion and improvement. In addition to these publications, a series of workshops and meetings for editors have been successfully conducted by Latindex partners in several Latin American countries.

In 2006, INASP supported Latindex in extending their training and support activities with the objective of increasing the quality and visibility of scholarly journal publishing in Latin American countries. Specifically, INASP supported activities to build knowledge of online publishing and indexing within the editorial community, to help develop quality standards and to reinforce awareness and visibility of Latin American journals through collaborative efforts such as Latindex.

The activities which took place included:

  • A workshop on Science Publishing for authors editors and publishers held at La Paz, Bolivia, September 2006
  • A virtual workshop for science editors run from Buenos Aires, Argentina, throughout September-November 2006
  • Support for participants to attend the 12th Annual Latindex meeting, held in Mexico City, Mexico, October 2006
