2008
Libraries and digital library services best practice review workshop, 2-4 December, Lahore, Pakistan
This workshop was jointly developed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and INASP. The event aimed to demonstrate, review and share best practice of digital library services support and delivery within a university environment in Pakistan and to encourage continued digital library services development within participating institutions. Hassan Zaidi (HEC) and Martin Belcher (INASP) facilitated with the assistance of participants who had previously agreed to present case studies. The case studies and workshop content generated great interest and discussion and helped identify objectives for institutional and national level development of existing digital library services.
Optimise use of electronic -resources for research workshop, University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore, November & December 2008

International Network for Online Resources and Materials (INFORM) training workshop entitled ‘Finding Online Health Information', Dow University, Karachi, Pakistan, 27-31 October 2008
Martha J Garrett and Anders Wändahl facilitated an INFORM-developed subject-focused workshop at the request of, and in collaboration with, Hassan Zaidi of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Martin Belcher from INASP. Whilst focusing on selected topics that felt to have the highest public health impact, the workshop covered the following search strategies:
- The importance of looking in the right place
- Accessing free full-text articles via open access (including Medline)
- Carrying out efficient and effective searches
- Finding full-text articles via pre-paid access (INASP/PERii and HEC Digital Library)
- Finding resources on the Web
- Finding books and e-books
- Finding information for teaching and research
The workshop aimed to teach the participants to find the information they need for their professional work both effectively and efficiently. Importantly it also aimed to give them the tools and skills required to teach others what they have learned. The twenty-seven participants provided very positive feedback on the achievement of these aims and in particular praised the content, quality and facilitation of this workshop and its relevance to their work. Follow up events were requested to allow others to benefit and increase available number of local master trainers in this area.
