Within a year of posting a message on the AuthorAID discussion group to guage interest in a potential new journal, Govinda Bhandari not only set-up the International Journal of Environment (IJE) on Nepal Journals Online (NepJOL), but also published three issues with increasing numbers of downloads and submissions. In three issues there have been a total of 48 articles published with submissions from 12 countries and a large international editorial board.

Here Govinda tells his story, demonstrating how the support of a strong research community and an easy-to-use publishing platform combine to make a significant impact.
